Can I Use iMessage With GFS eSIM?
Yes. iMessage works over the internet, so you can use your GFS eSIM mobile data connection to send and receive iMessages on your iPhone or iPad.
Use GFS eSIM for Your Internet Connection
GFS eSIM is a data-only service, but iMessage uses an internet connection rather than the GFS eSIM providing a phone number. Once GFS eSIM is selected for mobile data and connected to the internet, iMessage can use that connection.
You May Be Able to Keep Your Number on iMessage
If your primary SIM or eSIM remains active, your existing phone number may continue to be available for iMessage while GFS eSIM provides the mobile data connection. This depends on your iPhone configuration and carrier.
If you keep your primary line active, set GFS eSIM as your mobile data line and review the roaming settings for your primary SIM with your home carrier.
If iMessage Isn't Working
1. First, make sure your GFS eSIM has a working mobile data connection.
2. Open Settings → Apps → Messages and make sure iMessage is enabled.
3. Open Send & Receive and review the phone numbers and email addresses available for iMessage.
4. If your regular phone number is temporarily unavailable, you can use an email address associated with your Apple Account for iMessage, where available.
Still Having Trouble?
If iMessage is not working even though your internet connection is active, you can try turning iMessage off and back on. Then return to Send & Receive and check which phone number or email address is selected.
Keep iMessage, Use GFS eSIM for Data
Installing GFS eSIM does not automatically mean you need to change your iMessage number. Keep your existing line active when needed and use GFS eSIM as your mobile data connection while travelling.
